MELD Online Conference

The year 2020 was a bit of a roller coaster in almost every aspect. For those who have been working, for those who are raising children, or for those who live alone, and especially for those who moved to Cambridge in the middle of a pandemic.

Whilst life slowed down and social contact became rare, our weekly CELS sessions stayed lively and vibrant. People joined, got connected and found hope and a like-minded community. We discussed topics and shared our stories and just talked. In summer 2020 we started to think about our first project with the help of our fantastic teachers. This is MELD – a virtual conference that stands for ‘My English Language Drive in Cambridge’. A conference that is completely organised by us, a group of people from all over the world who happened to have landed in Cambridge.

We wanted to share our experiences that we’ve gained by moving from another continent, exploring the British culture, learning the English Language and by never giving up. Isn’t that what we all need?

We were extremely proud and honoured that the Mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Russ McPherson, opened our conference.
